Where do the photos on the map come from?
From your phone's camera, which OutPath opens. The app has no gallery picker: you take the photo there and then, it is pinned at the phone's position when it is taken, and before it is published the app checks that the spot is outdoors, away from built-up areas.
Are the photos on this website from the OutPath map?
No. They come from Wikimedia Commons, and the photo credits name the author and licence of each one. Photos from the OutPath map will appear here only with their authors' consent.
Is an OutPath account free?
Yes. The account costs nothing and needs no card. It puts 5 photos a week on the map, records your outings, plans routes and keeps one offline region. Premium is an optional extra.
Can I create an account before I install the app?
Yes, right here. Then sign in to the app with the same email address and password.
Which phones does OutPath run on?
Android 7.0 and newer. There is no iPhone version yet.
Where does OutPath work?
In Poland and Switzerland, for now. Google Play offers the app only in these two countries, and photos can only be added to the map there. Place search and online route planning cover them too. Recording and the offline regions you download also work further afield.
Is OutPath only for hiking?
No. You can record walking, hiking, running, cycling, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, climbing and kayaking, and the route planner has profiles for walking and for cycling.
Does OutPath work without signal?
Recording and photographing always work: a photo waits in a queue and sends itself once you are back in range. Download a region, and the map and route planning work offline too. One region is free, and Premium keeps up to 10.
Who can see my photos?
Everyone who uses the app, unless you make a photo private. The places you have visited and the activities you have saved are yours alone.
Does the app track me in the background?
No. It reads your location while you use the map or add a photo, and while you record an activity you started yourself. Recording keeps going with the screen off, and a notification shows for as long as it runs. The app never asks for Android's background location permission, so it reads nothing when you are neither using it nor recording.
What does Premium cost?
19 zł a month or 159 zł a year in Poland, and CHF 6.90 or CHF 59 in Switzerland, including VAT. Google Play sells the subscription and shows the exact price before you pay.
How do I leave Premium or delete my account?
Cancel the subscription in Google Play, step by step. Delete the account at the bottom of Settings in the app or in your browser.
